The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow will begin its 2026/27 lecture season on 4 September, offering courses spanning the history of art from antiquity to the present. The programme includes both in-person and online formats, with lectures prepared by the museum’s research staff and invited specialists.
The season opens with subscription series No. 5, ‘Another Renaissance: The Art of the Netherlands in the 15th–16th Centuries’. Beginning on 4 September, the course will examine the work of Jan van Eyck, Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and other Netherlandish artists of the period. According to the museum’s announcement, the series will focus on a world in which art communicated through concealed meanings and details of everyday life.
The programme also continues established lecture cycles designed to cover major periods in art history. Subscriptions Nos. 3 and 4 range from ancient Egypt to postmodernism, while subscriptions Nos. 1 and 2 conclude a two-year cycle on the history of foreign art. The museum presents these courses as suitable both for newcomers to art history and for returning audiences familiar with its lectures and collections.
Several new subjects have been added for the coming season. Subscription No. 7 is devoted to Caravaggio, while No. 9 considers prominent 20th-century architects and the relationship between individual personality and creative method. Subscription No. 10 addresses new discoveries in archaeology and art history. The programme also includes courses on photography, described by the museum as an unusual and contested form of art, under subscriptions Nos. 13 and 18.
Online teaching will include the two-year foreign-art-history cycle through subscriptions Nos. 23 and 24, as well as a course on artworks associated with European capitals under No. 27. Subscription No. 28 will trace the development of art in England from the Middle Ages through the 20th century. The museum states that its virtual courses coincide in dates and times with the in-person lectures, asking participants to pay close attention when selecting a format.
