Stephan Kaluza’s ‘FROM DUST TO BLOOM’ will be presented by JD Malat Gallery in Dubai from 15 September to 31 October 2026. The solo exhibition will take place at the gallery’s space in Act 2 Tower, Ground Floor, 13a Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Downtown Dubai. It will be open daily from 10am to 10pm.
The exhibition brings together paintings that examine nature through two related approaches: hyper-realistic oil-on-canvas images and near-abstract renderings. According to the gallery, these modes are not separate bodies of work but different states of the same subject, understood through stages of transformation. The presentation includes works dated from 2024 through 2026.
Kaluza’s images initially suggest intact, idyllic landscapes. The gallery’s exhibition text says that disruptions gradually emerge within these scenes, making their apparent beauty and stability uncertain. The works therefore move between precise, almost preservative depictions of the natural world and compositions in which that world appears altered or unsettled.
Among the works listed for the exhibition is ‘The Disappeared’ (2024), an oil painting on canvas measuring 140 by 210 centimetres, or 55 by 82.6 inches. The same title also appears in a 2025 version. Other works include ‘Transit 282’, ‘Transit 292’, ‘Transit 297’ and ‘Transit 271’, all from 2025, alongside 2026 works titled ‘Transit 313 / 307’, ‘Transit 320 (diptych)’, ‘Transit 321 (diptych)’, ‘Impact’, ‘Sunset 1’, ‘Sunset 2’, ‘Sunset 3’, ‘Transit 303’ and ‘Transit 308’.
The gallery describes Kaluza’s treatment of nature through the concept of the *nunc stans*, or a timeless “now,” while also presenting that apparent permanence as open to question. In this framework, the paintings’ visual precision does not simply preserve a landscape; it becomes a point of tension between what appears stable and the signs that challenge that appearance. The exhibition page does not provide further biographical information about the artist.
JD Malat Gallery was established in 2017 and maintains spaces in Mayfair, London, and Downtown Dubai, according to institutional information published by Art Dubai. The gallery says it supports established and emerging artists, represents 20 international artists, and works across media including painting and sculpture. Its programme includes exhibitions at its locations as well as participation in international art fairs. ‘FROM DUST TO BLOOM’ follows ‘Points of View | Dubai’, which the gallery lists as running from 15 July to 15 September 2026, with Kaluza’s exhibition scheduled to open on the latter date.
