Mary Heilmann, whose wavy, rainbow-hued abstractions brought an expansive sense of joy and human presence to postwar painting, died on August 14 at a hospital in Riverhead, New York.
Organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Alaynee Goodwill-Littlechild, the exhibition brings together works by Wally Dion, Bob Boyer, Renee Condo, Tamara Lee-Anne Cardinal, Brian Jungen, Dean Drever, Susan Point and others.
Hilma’s Ghost is an artist collective formed by Dannielle Tegeder and Sharmistha Ray. The collective’s name pays homage to the Swedish mystic and painter Hilma af Klint (1862–1944), who is recognized as one of the first abstract artists in Western art history.
