Cisleithania, 1862–1918
Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and a founding member of the Vienna Secession movement. His work contributed to defining the Art Nouveau style in Europe and often focused on the female body, characterized by frank eroticism. Klimt is well-known for works such as The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I. He was notably influenced by Japanese art and its techniques.
