Neue Galerie New York will mark its 25th anniversary with a special exhibition scheduled for autumn 2026, filling the museum’s landmark building on Museum Mile. The presentation, titled '25th Anniversary Exhibition: Masterworks from the Neue Galerie,' is being organized in conjunction with the museum’s founding anniversary. The museum, currently closed for restoration over the summer, says it will reopen in autumn 2026, at which point all galleries will reopen with the exhibition; specific dates have not yet been announced.
The exhibition is described as a celebration of the institution founded in 2001. Neue Galerie says the project will occupy the entirety of its landmark building and bring together curated highlights from the collection. Among the works singled out in the announcement is Gustav Klimt’s 'Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I' (1907), one of the museum’s best-known holdings.
The museum has built its identity around early 20th-century Austrian and German art and design, with collection strengths in Vienna around 1900, the Wiener Werkstätte, German modernism, the Bauhaus and related movements.
