The Belvedere Museum has announced a new collaboration with the LEGO Group that will turn Gustav Klimt’s 'The Kiss' into a large-scale LEGO Art set. According to the museum’s newsletter and social-media posts, the set is designed as a three-dimensional building experience that translates the painting’s ornament, gold palette and layered surfaces into LEGO bricks. The release is scheduled for August 2026, with the museum stating on LinkedIn that it will be available from August 1, 2026, for LEGO Insiders and from August 4, 2026, for everyone.
The museum describes the set as LEGO Art Gustav Klimt: 'The Kiss' and says it is the largest LEGO Art masterpiece to date, with 4,000 pieces. The Belvedere’s own wording presents the product as an interactive way to “build and experience” Klimt’s work, rather than simply view it as an image. In the newsletter, the museum adds that the set is available in its shop, while also framing it as a homage to one of the world’s most famous paintings.
The project draws directly on the Belvedere’s position as the institution that permanently displays Klimt’s original 'The Kiss'. On LinkedIn, the museum said the set was developed in collaboration with the Belvedere, where the painting is on view, and that curator Stephanie Auer worked with LEGO Master Model Designer Milan Madge during development. The post says they explored how Klimt’s composition, symbolism and artistic techniques could be reimagined in LEGO bricks while remaining true to the spirit of the original.
The collaboration sits within a broader pattern of the Belvedere presenting its collection through digital and participatory formats. The same August newsletter also highlights Belvedere Games, 3D models of works in the collection, studio visits with artists and a summer school on collection institutions in a digital world. In that context, the LEGO set appears as part of a wider institutional interest in ways audiences can encounter artworks beyond the conventional gallery visit.
Belvedere’s materials also place the announcement alongside other current programming across the museum and Belvedere 21, including exhibitions such as Anni Albers, Erna Rosenstein, Miao Ying and 'Stellprobe'. The newsletter’s focus on summer events and family activities frames the LEGO release as one element in a wider season of public programming rather than as a standalone product launch.
