Asta Gröting’s video work ‘Things’ will be presented as part of the CARLONE CONTEMPORARY series at the Upper Belvedere. The presentation runs from 24 September 2026 to 29 March 2027.
In ‘Things’ (2018), gravity appears to be suspended as organic and inorganic objects move in slow motion toward a deep-blue summer sky. The sequence builds suspense as each airborne object appears, while the thrown objects undergo grotesque distortions.
CARLONE CONTEMPORARY presents contemporary works twice a year in the Carlone Hall of the Upper Belvedere. The artists in the series respond to the hall’s baroque fresco programme, creating a bridge from the ancient world of Apollo and Diana to the present.
The presentation is curated by Stella Rollig, with Johanna Hofer as assistant curator.
Gröting’s sculptures, videos and performances explore relationships between people, animals and things, and seek forms for making invisible social and psychological realities visible.
