Madrid’s Centro district will mark the August festivity season in 2026 with a programme of castizo celebrations, religious observances and community events spanning multiple neighbourhood spaces. According to the city’s programme listing, the ‘Fiestas de San Lorenzo’ will run from 8 to 11 August in Plaza de Arturo Barea, while the ‘Fiestas de la Virgen de la Paloma’ are scheduled for 13 to 16 August in Jardines de las Vistillas and Plaza de la Paja.

The announcements sit alongside the broader ‘Fiestas de San Cayetano, San Lorenzo y la Virgen de la Paloma 2026’ calendar published by Madrid’s municipal news site. The source describes the three summer verbena celebrations as filling Lavapiés, La Latina and surrounding streets with live music, processions, children’s workshops and traditional activities, with Centro’s district venues acting as the main stages for the programme.

For ‘San Lorenzo’, the schedule opens on 8 August with a family activity titled ‘Qué emoción’, a painting workshop organised by the Asociación de Comerciantes de Lavapiés Distrito 12, and a water battle organised by the Plataforma Fiestas Populares de Lavapiés. That evening, Plaza de Arturo Barea will host a tribute act titled ‘La Penúltima Sabinera’, followed by DJ Paulo. The following day brings the castizo performance ‘Zarzuela de Mujeres’, the concert of Los Vinagres By Vibra Mahou and DJ José del Rey, along with a recycled-toys workshop on Calle de Argumosa.

Religious observance remains central to the San Lorenzo dates. On 10 August, the church of San Lorenzo on Calle del Dr. Piga will host a mass and the procession of San Lorenzo. Later that night, the main square will feature Metroolé as the headline act, with DJ Madent afterwards. The festivities close on 11 August with a castizo performance by Manuel de Segura in ‘Copla Castiza’, a concert by Lotus and DJ Pakito, while nearby the Asociación Esta es una Plaza is set to run games, comic and graphic novel readings, manual activities and a petanca tournament. The programme also lists the VII Edición Concurso de Chotis Virgen de la Paloma that evening at Plaza de la Virgen de la Paloma.

The second half of the month shifts to the ‘Virgen de la Paloma’ programme, which the city says will centre on Jardines de las Vistillas and Plaza de la Paja. The opening night on 13 August begins with a salve at midnight in Plaza de la Paja, followed by castizo performances by Mari Pepa de Chamberí in ‘Viva La Paloma’ and El Orgullo de Madrid. That evening’s headline act in Las Vistillas is Celtas Cortos, while Plaza de la Paja hosts Orquesta Tucán. The following days include additional salves, children’s contests, chocolate-sharing and street entertainment.

Among the confirmed event details for the Paloma dates are the procession and liturgical milestones on 15 August: the floral offering outside Colegio La Salle-La Paloma, the solemn mass at the church of the Virgen de la Paloma, the lowering of the image by the Madrid fire brigade, and the procession itself. That night, Depol is scheduled for Las Vistillas, while ‘Roneo Brunch’, hosted by La Plazuela, is listed for Plaza de la Paja. On 16 August, Miss Caffeina will headline in Las Vistillas and Karavana will perform in Plaza de la Paja, with the closing events also including a vermouth gathering and prize-giving in Plaza de la Paja.
