Cineteca Madrid’s Monthly Programme Includes Retrospectives, Cycles and a Festival

Cineteca is joining Madrid es Paisaje, an initiative of Madrid City Council that puts the focus on places in the city that are not as emblematic, defining the initiative through its attention to less emblematic urban locations.

The month’s programming is presented in a space of Madrid’s Area of Culture, Tourism and Sport and includes several retrospectives, cycles and a festival, the three formats named for the schedule this month.

Seles’s films, or ‘videos’, as she prefers to call them, are a genre in themselves and a narrative and human chaos of frenetic editing, where the absurd and the credible meet; through abrupt transitions, distinctive framing and overprinted commentary in Spanglish, Seles invites viewers to question perception, communication and the tyranny of language.

On the 90th anniversary of his birth, Cineteca pays tribute to Jacinto Esteva, identified as an architect, painter, urban planner and filmmaker; a Warren Sonbert retrospective will place his avant-garde cinema in dialogue with classic films by Dziga Vertov, Alfred Hitchcock and Douglas Sirk; and Eugènia Balcells will also receive a tribute as a pioneer of experimental cinema and audiovisual art in Spain who died last March.
