The exhibition runs from 10 October 2026 to 28 March 2027. It includes two new installations produced expressly for the architecture and surroundings of Centro Botín.
The presentation brings together Pessoa’s early works and investigations from the 1990s with ambitious formal developments from the current decade. Pessoa’s multidisciplinary practice encompasses sculpture, painting, video, performance, installation and drawing, and addresses nature, memory, the body, spirituality and life cycles.
Her work is deeply connected to the landscape and context of Minas Gerais, a region of great natural wealth and one of Brazil’s principal mining centers. Through organic and mineral materials, she establishes a direct relationship with this land and culture, evoking processes of metamorphosis and an oneiric relationship with landscape and matter.
The exhibition’s title refers to a treatment of opposites as spaces of ambiguity and contemplation rather than closed categories, bringing together the bodily and the transcendent, darkness and light, and the human and the animal. It is curated by Bárbara Rodríguez Muñoz, Centro Botín’s director of exhibitions and its collection. Pessoa was born in Ferros, Brazil, in 1961, and lives and works in Belo Horizonte.
