The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum will present ‘Carolina Caycedo: Growing Deep Roots’ from September 9, 2026, through January 4, 2027, highlighting new and recent work by the Los Angeles-based Colombian artist. According to the museum’s fall K–12 newsletter, the solo exhibition brings together sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and video to examine humanity’s relationship with nature through Caycedo’s multidisciplinary practice.
The exhibition is framed around themes that include water and land stewardship, sustainable energy, just energy transition, care and reciprocity in human-nature relationships, perennial agriculture, and Traditional Ecological Knowledge. The museum says Caycedo’s work draws on environmental justice, Indigenous philosophies, and ecofeminism, and challenges viewers to think about nature not as a resource to be exploited but as a living entity that connects people across borders.
The newsletter description also emphasizes the exhibition’s attention to the systems and infrastructures that shape environmental life. Works in ‘Growing Deep Roots’ are said to explore care for other-than-human matter, present plants as subjects with agency, and demonstrate the impact of extractivist infrastructures on bodies of water and social structures. The exhibition will also be part of an Educator Happy Hour on September 17, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
