Museus de Sitges will present 'Noves Adquisicions per a Nous Relats 2025.2' at the Museu de Maricel’s Sala Rocamora from 5 June to 20 September 2026. The exhibition brings together recently acquired works and donations to the institution’s holdings, alongside deposits from the Fons d’Art de la Generalitat de Catalunya, in a display that aims to broaden the narratives attached to the museum’s collections.
The project is framed by the museum as an effort to revise and expand traditional collection stories through new perspectives. According to the exhibition text, the selection offers a plural route across different disciplines, artistic languages and generations, with particular attention to creators connected to dissident discourses, queer identities, alternative memories and new readings of contemporary art history. The exhibition coincides with Pride month and is presented by the Consorci del Patrimoni de Sitges – Museus de Sitges.
The exhibition text also describes the museum’s acquisitions policy as a way of generating closer, more relevant and more plural narratives for the public. It positions 'Noves Adquisicions per a Nous Relats 2025.2' within a broader institutional commitment to inclusion, diversity and community participation, and to the critical reinterpretation of heritage. The materials on view are meant to connect historical and contemporary artists in a shared space of dialogue.
Artists represented in the exhibition include Ismael Smith i Marí, Costus, Jean Cocteau, José Pérez Ocaña, Lluís Ripoll i Querol, Paco y Manolo, Roser Oduber, Nazario and Antoni Ruiz Boquera. The museum says the show includes works recently acquired or incorporated into its holdings, as well as external deposits, with examples ranging from drawings and prints to painting, collage and comic-page formats.
Among the works listed are Antoni Ruiz Boquera’s 'Cartell de la desapareguda discoteca Trailer de Sitges' from 1991, several works by Ismael Smith i Marí dating from 1905, 1909 and 1911, Costus’s 'Minotaure' from 1985, Jean Cocteau’s 'Mariner', and José Pérez Ocaña’s self-portraits, both undated. The presentation also includes material by Lluís Ripoll i Querol from the early 1990s, Paco y Manolo’s 'Atlant', Roser Oduber’s 'Salamandra. Còmic en 6 pàgines', and a group of works and documents by Nazario spanning 1993 to 2008, including studies related to Saint Sebastian and AIDS allegory.
The museum’s accompanying text links the exhibition to a desire to make visible artists associated with queer culture and dissident voices, and to reassess Sitges as a site of freedom, creativity and cultural diversity. The show is on view Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., in Sala Rocamora at the Museu de Maricel, Sitges, from 5 June through 20 September 2026.
