Centro Botín in Santander will host the final ‘Cápsula radio’ of the season from 15 to 23 August, offering a short-format performance that combines radio, object theatre and visual theatre. The activity is free, open to all audiences and has limited capacity, with five-minute passes and a maximum of two people per session.
According to the centre’s programme information, ‘Cápsula radio’ is a series of 11 micro spectacles created by the companies COMA14 and Société Mouffette in collaboration with the RNE programme ‘La sala’. Each piece is written by one of 11 prominent Spanish playwrights and performed by an ensemble of actors in 11 radios from different eras, bringing together the language of broadcasting and stage performance in a compact format.
The Santander presentation features ‘Gota de lluvia’, written by Sergio Baos. In the story, a radio presenter interviews Anita Sepúlveda, described as a child piano prodigy who has just performed Chopin’s ‘Gota de lluvia’ live. The encounter, attended by her father, gradually reveals a view of education in which excellence appears to outweigh the girl’s own wishes, before an unexpected live call changes the direction of the interview and prompts Anita to confront what she really wants to express.
The work is presented as part of a larger project that first appears each month on ‘La sala’, where an opening section of one of the stories is broadcast and the cultural venue in Spain where the full piece can be experienced is announced. For this season’s final instalment, Centro Botín is the site identified for the complete presentation.
The centre’s listing places the activity in the Aulas, specifically the antesala, and notes that it is directed to all audiences, with children from seven years old admitted when accompanied by adults. The performance is described as free of charge and available until capacity is filled.
Alongside the performance details, the programme credits include voice actors Jose Artero, Alexandra Palomo, Xisca Ferrà and Ona Ferrà, sound design by Iñaki Rubio, and artistic direction and object dramaturgy by Tolo Ferrà and Vera González. The run at Centro Botín is scheduled for 15 to 23 August.
