Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art will reopen on August 5 after a temporary closure caused by the earthquake that struck on July 28, the museum said in an announcement posted August 3. The museum said safety checks of the facility and grounds have been completed, allowing it to resume operations on Wednesday.
The museum had remained closed while it confirmed the building could be reopened safely. In its notice, the institution said it had suspended operations until safety was verified, and then announced that the reopening would take place once inspections were finished. Visitors were also advised to check the latest information before traveling, since traffic restrictions may still be in place around the museum.
The reopening announcement comes from Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art, the prefectural art museum in Kumamoto, Japan. The museum’s notice directs visitors to confirm road conditions and access in advance, noting that some streets in the area may still be subject to traffic controls.
Alongside the reopening, the museum said current exhibitions will continue as scheduled, including the special exhibition 'Watachi-tachi no Renoir' ('Our Renoir'). The notice also referred visitors to the exhibition page for information about weekday advance tickets previously sold for the show.
