The Bronx Museum will close out its First Friday Summer 2026 series with an evening event on August 7 featuring artist David Antonio Cruz and DJ April Hunt. The free, all-ages program runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the museum’s building on Grand Concourse and is framed as a collaboration with Wave Hill celebrating Cruz’s current solo exhibition there, 'iknowyou’vewonderedwherei’vebeen; adrift, astare, atilt, asigh, exhale'.
According to the Bronx Museum, the night will bring together music, art, and community around themes that run through Cruz’s work, including intimacy, belonging, queer desire, and home. The museum says guests can expect open galleries, late viewing of 'The Seventh AIM Biennial: Forms of Connection', complimentary beverages and bites while supplies last, and DJ April Hunt on the decks. Optional RSVP is listed, with admission free.
The event is part of a broader summer program at the Bronx Museum, which has been presenting themed First Friday gatherings across June, July, and August. The August edition is described as a special evening with Wave Hill, where Cruz’s exhibition remains on view through August 9, 2026. The museum’s newsletter identifies the event as the final installment of the summer series.
Cruz’s practice is presented by the museum and Wave Hill as expansive and interdisciplinary. In the Bronx Museum event listing, he is described as working in painting, drawing, performance, and site-specific installations, while the museum and Wave Hill materials both emphasize his exploration of queer discourse, fashion, history, and pop culture. Wave Hill’s exhibition page says the show occupies Glyndor Gallery, a former private estate, and responds directly to the architecture of the domestic interior.
Wave Hill’s description characterizes the installation as immersive and site-specific, with artworks that blur the boundaries between public and private, exterior and interior, visible and hidden. The exhibition also includes drawings that camouflage figures in woodland backgrounds, as well as artist-designed wallpaper in the south gallery that recalls the forest around Cruz’s ancestral home in Puerto Rico and incorporates views of the surrounding environment outside Glyndor Gallery.
The museum and Wave Hill both place the exhibition within Cruz’s larger inquiry into home, diaspora, and belonging. Wave Hill notes that the work draws connections between geography, LGBTQ+ culture, and autobiography, while the Bronx Museum’s event page frames the evening as a celebration of Cruz’s ongoing examination of intimacy, belonging, queer desire, and home. The exhibition title itself is written as 'iknowyou’vewonderedwherei’vebeen; adrift, astare, atilt, asigh, exhale'.
The Bronx Museum’s First Friday event is scheduled for Friday, August 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at 1040 Grand Concourse in the Bronx. Wave Hill lists Cruz’s exhibition at Glyndor Gallery through August 9, 2026.
