Janne Klerk brings 'Spejlinger ved himlens fod' to Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon in Videbæk

Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon in Videbæk will open 'Spejlinger ved himlens fod', a photographic exhibition by Danish photo artist Janne Klerk, with a vernissage on 22 August 2026 from 2 to 4 pm. The exhibition runs until 27 September 2026 and is presented by Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon / Arne Haugen Sørensen Museum according to the institution’s newsletter and calendar listing.

The project is built around reflections in the surface of a single, nature-protected forest lake in Denmark. In the source material, the pavilion describes the lake’s water mirror as the starting point for reflections on the relationship between human beings, nature and the cosmos. The exhibition text says that all of the photographs depict that same lake, which Klerk studied patiently over the period 2016 to 2021.

According to the exhibition page, the body of work is concerned not only with stillness and clarity, but also with more unstable states in the water’s surface. The institution says the reflections can range from calm and peace to drama, turbulence and chaos, and that some photographs are taken directly down into the water mirror without coordinates indicating where the viewer is positioned. The images are described as showing high and low, reversed and right-way-round at the same time.

The calendar note adds that a light breeze or a falling cone can momentarily blur the image before the mirror clears again. On stormy, windy days, the water surface develops ripples and waves that can make what lies beneath disappear or create distorted images. The venue’s longer exhibition text presents the lake as a site of complexity that is at once intriguing, disquieting and liberating.

Klerk’s project is also framed through an explicitly reflective and interdisciplinary approach. The exhibition page says the artist has worked with astrophysicist Anja C. Andersen and writer Gitte Broeng, both of whom contribute texts on measurable and non-measurable statements and perspectives on the idea of 'spejlinger'. The institution quotes Klerk as saying that, during the photographing process, the reflections in the forest lake became a metaphor for the reflections constantly taking place between people and their surroundings.

Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon says the exhibition’s photographs are also connected to broader questions about light refraction in water, ecosystems, the universe, the sun and the atmosphere. The newsletter notes that versions of the exhibition have previously been shown at Rundetårn and at Johannes Larsen Museet, while the Videbæk presentation is described as the first time the exhibition is shown in this form in Jutland.
