HackelBury’s current exhibition, ‘William Klein: 100’, is presented as one of the most comprehensive presentations of William Klein’s work in London in recent years and runs until 2 February 2027. The exhibition brings together celebrated street photography, fashion imagery, portraits, early abstract works and later painted contact sheets to trace Klein’s radical reinvention of photography.
During the exhibition, HackelBury is presenting a special film focus on William Klein in partnership with L’Institut Français Royaume-Uni. The screenings form part of the official programme for the Bicentenary of Photography, launched by France’s Ministry of Culture to celebrate 200 Years of Photography and running from 1 September 2026 to 30 September 2027.
Visitors are invited to explore the world of William Klein at HackelBury ahead of Ciné Lumière’s screenings of ‘Muhammad Ali, The Greatest’ and ‘Who are you Polly Maggoo?’ at L’Institut Français. Faustine Pallez-Beauchamp, Visual Arts Manager of L’Institut Français, will give an introduction to the organisation’s current programme on 200 years of photography, which runs until September 2027.
‘Who are you Polly Maggoo?’ draws on Klein’s decade-long career as a fashion photographer for Vogue to deliver a satirical portrayal of Parisian haute couture through the story of Polly Maggoo, a top American model in Paris whose fantasies and pretensions reflect the ongoing disillusionment of the fashion world.
