URBAN NATION Museum for Urban Contemporary Art is preparing to unveil a new mural by Jim Avignon in Berlin-Spandau, following earlier Community Walls by the artist in Falkenhagener Feld. The new work, titled ‘Community Wall by Jim Avignon: Spektefeld’, is presented in the museum’s newsletter as a ONE WALL developed through participatory work with young people from the Outreach youth club. The event is scheduled for August 28, 2026, from 3 to 6 pm at Kraepelinweg 3, 13589 Berlin-Spandau, with the artist present.

According to URBAN NATION, the project was created as part of the Stadtraum!Plus program in cooperation with the Stiftung Berliner Leben and Gewobag. The institution says the mural was realized in participatory collaboration with young people, and that the motif was developed with their involvement. In the museum’s framing, the project is tied to the theme of ‘Good Neighborhood’ and positions public space as a site of shared negotiation, visibility, and participation.

The work extends Jim Avignon’s established visual language into a large-scale wall painting. URBAN NATION describes the mural as using a two-dimensional, comic- and pop culture-influenced approach, with vivid colors, simplified figures, and a composition dense with narrative. The image spans the wall as a panorama of human and hybrid figures, animals, everyday objects, and urban fragments. The museum notes that the scene can appear playful at first glance but becomes more complex on closer viewing, suggesting movement, communication, neighborhood life, and public space as interwoven parts of everyday urban existence.

The institution places particular emphasis on the combination of authorship and participation in the project. In its description, the Community Wall is not only a finished artwork but also a social process, one that links aesthetic practice, participation, and local identity. URBAN NATION presents the mural as an interface between art, urbanity, and social space, and as a visible sign that cultural participation in public space can be collectively produced.

The newsletter adds that the artist will attend the unveiling. It also notes that the new mural follows two previous Community Walls by Jim Avignon in Falkenhagener Feld. Those earlier works are not described in detail in the source material, but the new project is explicitly positioned as a continuation of that collaboration in the neighborhood.

URBAN NATION’s wider summer newsletter places the mural alongside other programs, including the Long Night of Museums, a Tape Art workshop, an Urban Sketch Circle series, and the exhibition ‘THE URBAN SKIN. Pietro Ruffo and Jan Bauer’ in the project space. For the Jim Avignon event, however, the verified details are limited to the unveiling at Kraepelinweg 3 on August 28, 2026, from 3 to 6 pm, and to the project’s participatory development in Berlin-Spandau.
