Fundació Miró Mallorca in Palma has announced ‘Utopía del Lodo y Sashimi de Bruma’, a site-specific installation by Grip Face running from 19 September 2025 to 22 March 2026 in the foundation’s Espai Cúbic. The work is presented as an immersive installation that reflects on the global wartime present, with particular attention to the devastating effects of war on civilians and children.
According to the foundation’s exhibition text, the installation is formed by 12 suspended sculptures — masks held by thorn ropes — arranged in the shape of the European Union symbol. The foundation says that this configuration is not accidental: it questions Europe’s pacifist identity and its uncertain role in relation to armed conflict. The masks are described as fragmented, ambiguous forms that can be read either as silent, spectral presences or as avatars of resistance and protective talismans.
The exhibition’s narrative draws on recent reports of bombings in children’s parks in places including Gaza and Ukraine, and uses the swing as a symbolic element to underline the fragility of childhood in wartime. In the installation, the swings are fixed and suspended by thorns, turning the gallery into an uneasy scene in which theatricality becomes a metaphor for the battlefield and stillness carries latent tension. The foundation says the piece avoids an explicit declaration while still delivering a clear pacifist and anti-war message through symbolic and visual means.
Grip Face, identified on the exhibition page as David Oliver, has created the project as a site-specific intervention that transforms Espai Cúbic into a space for slow and critical contemplation. The foundation frames the work as an inquiry into European identity, collective memory and the fragility of contemporary peace. The exhibition text emphasizes the way the installation uses striking visual language rather than direct statement to approach these themes.
The exhibition is part of Fundació Miró Mallorca’s autumn-winter program of temporary exhibitions. An invitation email from the institution, headed by Palma’s mayor and foundation president Jaime Martínez, listed the opening of ‘Utopía del Lodo y Sashimi de Bruma’ alongside two other exhibitions by Stella Rahola Matutes and Mabi Revuelta. That email set the opening for 19 September 2025, with a programme beginning at 18:00 for Friends of the Foundation, followed by institutional welcomes and visits later in the evening.
