The exhibition opens on 8 October 2026 at 7 pm and runs from 9 October 2026 to 7 February 2027 in Exhibition Hall D. Javier Peñafiel is its curator.
Velasco created the site-specific installation inspired by the ideas of sphericity and beauty described by María Zambrano in ‘Claros del bosque’ (‘Forest Clearings’).
The installation resulted from intense attention to the forest’s sonic and visual fabric. Working from photographic sequences and following a nonhierarchical notetaking process, Velasco paints threads as though she were weaving them before placing them in hoops.
The work includes two cylindrical sacks coloured in tones ranging from the clearest light in the forest’s highest canopy to the shades of decomposing matter. A soundscape recorded in the forest enters the gallery alongside mountain ranges carved in wood, for situated and solitary listening to the spectrum of the forest’s sounds. Sacks of seeds are camouflaged against the gallery floor, introducing a tactile biological weight, just as the history of the earth is concealed within the rings of trees.
By translating the idea of the clearing into the vertical plane, the newly formed spheres make viewers leap beyond the vicious circles that entail a loss of experience. Velasco’s work combines painting and installation, and many of her projects are relational and connected to the experience of community.
