Kirchner Museum Davos will host a children’s workshop, 'Farbentraum', on 6 August 2026, offering participants aged six and up a three-hour introduction to color play inspired by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s attachment to vivid hues. The session is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the museum in Davos, with free admission and registration required through Pro Juventute’s Feriennet platform.

The workshop is one of several August programs listed by the museum alongside exhibition-related tours, concerts and family activities. In its newsletter, the museum links the event directly to Kirchner’s artistic relationship with color, inviting children to experiment with colors, learn simple physical tricks and paint freely. The announcement frames the activity as hands-on and playful rather than lecture-based, with the emphasis on mixing, testing and making color visible through artistic practice.

The program arrives during the run of 'Farbenrausch', the museum’s current exhibition, which opened on 14 June 2026 and continues through 3 January 2027. According to the museum, 'Farbenrausch' is designed as a sensory encounter with Kirchner’s work, tracing the artist’s use of color from the intense contrasts of his Berlin years to the more vibrating, nearly abstract color harmonies of his Davos period. The exhibition also includes interactive stations and experiments that explore how color emerges through the refraction, reflection and absorption of light, as well as through the interplay of eye and brain.

The museum describes 'Farbenrausch' as a project that brings together art and science, intuition and observation, and says the format is intended for adults, children and families. That broader exhibition context helps explain the workshop’s focus on color mixing and perception, which echoes the themes highlighted in the show and in the museum’s wider August calendar. A public guided tour of 'Farbenrausch' is also scheduled in English on 16 August, and regular public tours in German are listed for Tuesdays and Sundays.

Kirchner Museum Davos is using the month to build a layered program around its current exhibition, with family activities, participatory workshops and related events tied to the artist’s legacy in Davos. The August newsletter also notes a series of concerts at the museum in partnership with Davos Festival, but those remain separate from the children’s workshop and the exhibition program centered on 'Farbenrausch'.

For 'Farbentraum', the museum’s wording keeps the experience simple: children will experiment with color, discover easy physical tricks and paint with colors as they please. The event takes place on Thursday, 6 August 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Kirchner Museum Davos, with registration through davos.feriennet.projuventute.ch.
