A masterclass on German Expressionists Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Emil Nolde and Käthe Kollwich is scheduled for 27 October 2026, from 16.00 to 17.00. The session will examine how the artists express themselves, which motifs they depict, and how these elements change throughout their artistic work.
Kirchner was a driving force in the artist group Die Brücke and is known for expressive city scenes and later landscapes painted in vivid colours.
Nolde was briefly part of Die Brücke and is especially known for portraits and flower motifs in watercolour. The session therefore includes two artists associated with Die Brücke, though their recognised motifs include Kirchner’s city scenes and landscapes as well as Nolde’s portraits and flower subjects in watercolour.
Käthe Kollwich is described through an always expressive naturalist visual language that depicts human misery, despair and grief, particularly in drawn faces and motifs.
The masterclass will be led by ARoS communications assistant Martin Bjerg Dahl, who is studying for a master’s degree and has a supplementary subject in art history. Its location is level 3, in the auditorium.
