"ICC Annual 2026: What Is Left, What Remains, and What We Take on" enters its final weeks at NTT InterCommunication Center (ICC) in Tokyo, where it closes on 8 November 2026. Running since 20 June in the centre's Gallery B, the long-term exhibition is curated by Kazuhiko Yoshizaki, Yasuko Yubisui, Tomoya Kashimada and Kaori Tada.
The ICC Annual, launched in 2022 as a successor to the "Open Space" exhibitions held from 2006 to 2021, surveys media art and other forms of expression in today's media environment. This year's edition looks at the relationship between history, technology and media. According to the ICC, technologies such as generative AI now produce and circulate information at unprecedented speed and scale, while algorithms select and reorganise what we encounter, so that the frameworks deciding what is recorded and how it is shared are themselves changing. History and memory, it suggests, may be updated in real time and sometimes rewritten under political and economic pressure.
The exhibition therefore asks how media have shaped the formation of history and memory, and reflects on the act of preserving and leaving things behind. The works address the selection and exclusion built into recording media, the forces acting on images as they circulate digitally, and forms of communication that have fallen outside modern Western frameworks of perception.
Wu Chi-Yu presents four parts of his "Stories of Celluloid" series (2024–25), and Kim YoungEun shows the three-part "To Future Listeners" (2022–25), one of which is demonstrated by ICC staff. New works from 2026 include Muku Kobayashi's "Tsūchūtai, Teitōki (For Alternative Flight or Fall)", SUGAI KEN's "'… Huh!?': Pseudo-echoic Room", experienced by one visitor at a time in the centre's anechoic room, "Resistance Array" by suzueri (Elico Suzuki) and Satoru Higa, Rosa Menkman's "Image Remains" and Yasuhiro Morinaga's "Auto-ethnography: HAMAKAI". Rei Hayama shows "LYMENA" (2025), and Gregory Barsamian's "Juggler" (1997) is drawn from the ICC collection.
In the remaining weeks, Muku Kobayashi gives an artist talk on Saturday 24 October, and gallery tours are scheduled for 3 November.
