The Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana (MASI), part of LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura, is presenting "Schermo aperto. Opere video dalla collezione" (Open Screen: Video Works from the Collection) at Palazzo Reali, Via Canova 10, in Lugano, from 17 October 2026 to 25 April 2027.
The programme draws on a group of video works in the museum's collection that together cover more than thirty years of artistic experimentation. According to the museum, they show how the moving image has become one of the central forms of contemporary art, and the presentation gives visitors an opportunity to see this part of the holdings.
Rather than showing everything at once, MASI has divided nine works into three thematic chapters, each on view for roughly two months.
The first chapter, "Frontiere" (Borders), runs from 17 October to 13 December 2026. It brings together Beat Streuli's "Chiasso città di confine Estate 2014" (Chiasso, border town, summer 2014), Aline d'Auria's "We are all going home" and Erich Busslinger's "Inland Archiv".
"Monumenti" (Monuments) follows from 16 December 2026 to 21 February 2027, with Giorgia Piffaretti's "Anomalie G2025C45499", Julian Charrière's "And Beneath It All Flows Liquid Fire" (2019) and Andrea Fraser's "Little Frank and his Carp".
The final chapter, "Fantasmagorie" (Phantasmagorias), from 24 February to 25 April 2027, presents Piritta Martikainen's "Illuusio" (Illusion) and "Visioita" (Visions), Valentina Pini's "Water into Wine" and "switzerland" by alfatih.
The Charrière work is held in the City of Lugano Collection at MASI.
