MASI Lugano, the Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana, will open "illimitato, astratto, quasi futuro," a new exhibition by Kaspar Ludwig, at its Palazzo Reali venue on Via Canova on October 17, 2026. The show, which runs until April 4, 2027, is a previously unseen project by Ludwig, winner of the Premio Culturale Manor Ticino 2026. It opens with a reception on the evening of Friday, October 16.

Conceived specifically for the first floor of Palazzo Reali, the exhibition gathers new sculptures and installations that, room by room, form a continuous, circular narrative around the themes of threshold, passage and absence. According to the museum, the project draws on the Tibetan Buddhist idea of the bardo, the in-between state, to create a space in which the boundaries between human, animal and object begin to fade. Combining craft knowledge with reflection on the ties between species, Ludwig works across materials from clay and ceramics to wood and sound, giving shape to enigmatic presences and immersive environments that turn the galleries into a space for the viewer's own projections.

Born in Nuremberg in 1989 and raised in Ticino, Ludwig earned a bachelor's degree at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara in 2015 and a Master of Fine Arts at the HGK FHNW in Basel in 2018. He still lives and works in Basel. His work has been shown at Liste in Basel, Kunsthalle Basel and Kunsthalle St. Gallen, among other venues, and he took part in residencies in Tokyo in 2022. He received the Helvetia Art Prize in 2019, was nominated for the Swiss Art Awards in 2020 and 2022, and is represented in collections including the Julius Baer Art Collection and that of the Canton of Ticino.
