Museum der Moderne Salzburg is presenting Kunstkritik Jetzt (Art Criticism Now), a two-evening public program on how people speak and write about art and how opinions about it are formed. The program is organized in cooperation with the Sammlung Generali Foundation and magazin53a, an association dedicated to young art criticism and discourse. Both evenings take place in the museum's Mönchsberg auditorium from 6 to 9 pm, and admission is free.
According to the museum, the first evening approaches the subject from a feminist perspective, while the second turns to the viewpoint of a younger generation of critics. Talks are combined with artistic presentations and interventions.
On Tuesday, 20 October 2026, the program opens with a screening of Unsichtbare Gegner (Invisible Adversaries, 1976), the first feature film by VALIE EXPORT (1940–2026). The 112-minute film is followed by a conversation between cultural journalist and curator Nina Schedlmayer and Jürgen Tabor, curator of the Sammlung Generali Foundation. Schedlmayer writes the blog Artemisia, is the author of biographies of the artists Margot Pilz and Stephanie Hollenstein, and received the Austrian State Prize for Art Criticism in 2017.
On Friday, 23 October 2026, the focus shifts to the ways art is discussed and written about today. Jennifer Braun, who works between Cologne and Venice as The Gen Z Art Critic, gives a lecture. She writes the column POV Gen Z for Kunstforum International, contributes to publications including Monopol and Frieze, and co-hosts a podcast on art. The author, performer and artist Olga Hohmann then presents a lecture performance; her work has been shown at venues including the Fondation Beyeler, K21 and the Martin-Gropius-Bau. The evening also includes a screening of a video work by Andrea Fraser.
