The Power Plant continues its longstanding Fleck Clerestory Commission Program with Ella Gonzales’s ‘A Room’s Proportion, above or below.’ The upcoming exhibition runs from October 24, 2026, to March 21, 2027. Adelina Vlas, Artistic Director, and Sarah Edo, TD Curatorial Fellow, are listed as curators.

The work transforms the gallery with layers of painted, translucent fabric based on the proportions of domestic interiors that Gonzales recalls from memory. The 2026 installation is made from acrylic on chiffon and jusi silk, as well as metal and wood, and was commissioned by The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery.

As one remembered space is superimposed onto another, visitors move through overlapping rooms, histories, and perspectives. Evoking the notion of the threshold, the commission considers what happens when one condition slips into another and how traces of what came before remain visible in what follows.

Gonzales is a Filipina-Canadian artist working between painting and Computer-Aided Design programs, as led by her interest in space making. Her painting on piña silk, a fabric made from the leaves of a pineapple plant native to the Philippines, is inspired by the concept of displacement that immigrant communities experience.
