The Power Plant’s Fall 2026 Opening Celebration will take place on Friday, October 23, with a members’ preview from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and a public celebration from 7 to 9 p.m.; admission is free with an RSVP required. The exhibitions and related commissions are scheduled to run from October 24, 2026, through March 21, 2027.

This season, The Power Plant presents the first major solo exhibition in Toronto by Vancouver-born, UK-based artist Zadie Xa, created with longtime collaborator and artist Benito Mayor Vallejo. Los Angeles-based artist Sharon Lockhart’s latest film and photographs will also be presented.

The programme includes the film presentation ‘Owner of a Lonely Heart’, featuring Haig Aivazian, Stephanie Comilang, Alia Farid, Hope Pearl Strickland and Yuyan Wang. The season also includes new commissions by Ella Gonzales and Sami Tsang, plus a takeover of The Power Plant’s South Facade Billboard by Morgan Sears-Williams.

Ella Gonzales is a Filipina-Canadian artist whose work moves between painting and computer-aided design, with an interest in space-making; her painting on piña silk is informed by displacement experienced by immigrant communities. A work transforms the gallery with layers of painted, translucent fabric based on the proportions of domestic interiors recalled by the artist from memory.

‘What We Carry Forward’ by Sami Tsang marks the inaugural Smokestack Commission Program and is a site-specific large-scale ink mural inspired by childhood shadow puppetry and populated by tiny porcelain figurines of girls. Tsang is a Chinese-Canadian artist who works primarily as a ceramicist and draws on domestic narratives and gathered stories in her sculptures. Morgan Sears-Williams’s billboard work ‘feeling along the edges’ combines 16mm film strips depicting Hanlan’s Point Beach; the artist developed the film in instant coffee and buried it in sand for five days.
