Museo Jumex in Mexico City will present ‘Gateway’, the first solo exhibition in Mexico by Raúl Silva, from 16 October 2026 to 7 February 2027. Silva, who was born in Lima in 1991, works with the physical and intangible sides of telecommunications, an approach the museum describes as a form of media archaeology.

In computing, a gateway is the node where one network meets another and information passes between them. Silva borrows the term to think about the Mexican Caribbean as an entry point for technological development and for the infrastructure that supports it. According to the museum, the exhibition concentrates on the years in which global telecommunications networks were taking shape at the same moment that Cancún was growing into a major tourist destination, and it traces links between undersea cables and the tourism industry.

The project pays particular attention to what usually goes unseen in both systems: the land they occupy and the labour they depend on. It also considers the friction between pre-Hispanic imagery and the ideology of global expansion and connectivity that reshaped Mexico in the late twentieth century.

At the centre of the show is a video installation, accompanied by archival material, paintings and sculptural elements. Among the works reproduced by the museum is ‘GATEWAY 7’ (2026).

The exhibition is curated by Rosela del Bosque, associate curator, with curatorial assistant Adriana Flores. Silva will give a performative reading at the museum on Saturday 17 October, and the public programme also includes Sunday family workshops whose titles echo the show’s themes, among them sessions in November and December on building one’s own internet and on pixel webs.
