The Museo de Arte Moderno is presenting the temporary exhibition ‘Las dos Fridas. Creación de una identidad global’ from Friday, March 13, through Sunday, October 25.
The exhibition is timed to the centenary of the creation of Frida Kahlo’s first painted self-portrait, which falls in 2026.
Kahlo’s extensive self-referential production, prominently including ‘Las dos Fridas,’ has positioned her as a reference point for resilience among artists from different periods.
One example is the work of contemporary artist Mar Coyol, who reinterprets sorority in ‘Las dos Fridas’ to question the invisibilization of sexual dissidence through a critique of race and class.
The exhibition is presented in the Museo de Arte Moderno’s Sala Manuel Álvarez Bravo.
