The Fondation has invited Saudi artist Mohammad Alfaraj to create a site-specific work in Gallery 8 as part of its Open Space program, marking his first solo exhibition in a French institution. Titled ‘I’d Rather Be a Dragonfly Than a Lion,’ the exhibition runs from 9 October 2026 to 18 January 2027.

The project brings together videos within an installation composed of objects, photographs and drawings. Alfaraj’s stop-motion animations often take the form of poetic fables that engage with contemporary ecological, social and cultural issues. Set within the cultural context of Al Ahsa, these narratives bring together imagination, collective memory and the living world, achieving a resonance that extends far beyond their place of origin.

Open Space is a program dedicated to contemporary art that offers the possibility of a solo exhibition and the production of a new work. The exhibition’s curators are Claudia Buizza and Ludovic Delalande of the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The exhibition is presented in partnership with Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, which will present a solo exhibition by Alfaraj in 2028.
