Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona will open ‘Maintenance’, an exhibition by Ghislaine Leung, on 16 July 2026 at 7 pm. The show is billed as the third exhibition in ‘from 6:12 pm to 5:48 pm’, the Espai 13 programme curated by Alejandro Alonso Díaz, and it will run until 18 October 2026. The foundation’s announcement places the project within a season structured around experimental practice and attention to the relationship between architecture and contemporary art.
According to the foundation, Leung’s work is organised through scores that define the nature of each piece, with each score responding to the conditions of the structures in which it is shown. In the exhibition text, the institution says this approach reveals “their - our - own limitations within the system” and focuses attention on mutual dependence, the vulnerability of structures and “our movement through them.” The exhibition is framed through the parameters of the Fundació Joan Miró itself, making the institution’s functioning part of the work’s conceptual field.
Leung, who lives and works in London, is described by the foundation as an artist whose practice begins from “a rigorously conceptual yet deeply personal approach.” The exhibition page says she focuses on the reproductive aspects of institutional practice that shape artistic production and reception but usually remain invisible. Her work uses bullet-point instructions to redistribute and compose the terms of production, and the foundation notes that constraints—personal, institutional, structural or systemic—are used as a means of “instituting” differently.
The announcement also situates Leung within an established international exhibition history, listing solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Basel, the Renaissance Society in Chicago, Simian in Copenhagen, Maxwell Graham in New York, Ordet in Milan, Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach, Cabinet in London, Netwerk in Aalst, Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, Chisenhale in London, Reading International, Cell Project Space in London and WIELS in Brussels. These details, supplied by the foundation, underline the scale of the artist’s institutional profile without adding further biographical speculation.
‘Maintenance’ belongs to a broader Espai 13 season titled ‘from 6:12 pm to 5:48 pm’, which opened on 6 February 2026 and runs through 17 January 2027. The programme, also curated by Alejandro Alonso Díaz, positions Espai 13 as an experimental space with sustained attention to emerging practices and, this year, an expanded focus on the relationship between architecture and contemporary art. The foundation says the season explores energy and infrastructures, and how their immateriality defines structural, spatial and relational dimensions.
Leung’s exhibition is one of four that make up the series, alongside presentations by Huaqian Zhang, Michael Kleine and Victor Ruiz Colomer. The season also includes a separate intervention in the foundation’s foyer by artist and publisher Camilla Wills, titled ‘Divided’, which is scheduled for 14 July 2026 to 17 January 2027. The foundation says that Wills’ contribution will extend beyond the foyer and permeate the season’s final publication, but ‘Maintenance’ itself is set in Espai 13, with the opening on 16 July and the exhibition dates listed as 17 July to 18 October 2026.
