Pixxelpoint, the international festival of intermedia art, is in its final week in Nova Gorica and neighbouring Gorizia, where it closes on 23 October 2026. Organised by Kulturni dom Nova Gorica and hosted for the 27th consecutive year by the Mestna galerija Nova Gorica, this year's edition is titled 'SONONIMI: Vmesni prostori zvoka in podobe' (SONONIMI: In-between spaces of sound and image) and is curated by the composer and sound artist Andrej Kobal.
The festival spreads across both sides of the border, from the Mestna galerija and the Rotunda of the Slovene National Theatre Nova Gorica to Galerija TIR and The Circle in Gorizia. According to the organisers, it focuses on the in-between space where sound and image have not yet settled into a fixed meaning. The curatorial text sets this against a world shaped by information overload, war and the breakdown of shared meaning, and draws on references from the painted-curtain contest of Parrhasios and Zeuxis to Lucio Fontana's cuts, Penderecki's 'Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima' and Mondrian's trees. In the galleries, installations are designed to work as spatial instruments and performance environments that change through improvisation and visitors' actions.
Participating artists include Martin Bricelj Baraga, Tomaž Grom, Michele Spanghero, Tadej Droljc, Brane Zorman, Patrick K.-H., Zlatko Kaučič, Samo Kutin, Karmina Šilec and Mauricio Valdés San Emeterio. The remaining programme includes a concert by Samo Kutin on 20 October, public guided tours with the curator on 20 and 22 October, and, on the closing day, a guided tour of the exhibition followed by a concert by Zlatko Kaučič at the Mestna galerija. Kobal develops his own audiovisual software and has presented work at festivals including Sonic Acts and Visiones Sonoras.
