Museum Ovartaci has announced a series of guided tours every Thursday in July, offering visitors the chance to explore the museum’s permanent exhibition and learn more about Ovartaci, the art, the stories, and the people behind them. According to the museum’s July newsletter, two of the summer tours will be conducted in English, making the programme accessible to international visitors as well. The first listed tour takes place on 2 July 2026 from 1 pm to 2 pm at Museum Ovartaci in Aarhus.
The museum presents the tours as a shared summer experience for visitors in Aarhus and for guests in the city during the holiday period. The newsletter says the guided visits are intended to give audiences something to think about, while introducing them to the museum’s permanent displays. It also notes that visitors under 27 have free admission on Thursdays from 4 pm to 8 pm, and that the museum is open late on Thursdays until 8 pm.
The individual tour listings on the museum’s event pages identify the programme as a one-hour guided introduction to Ovartaci’s life and work. The English-language tour on 2 July is described as “Experience the Story of Ovartaci – the person, the artist, and the patient.” Through selected works and objects in the museum’s permanent exhibitions, the tour traces the story of Louis Marcussen, the painter who became a patient and found his own voice and identity as Ovartaci through art.
The event description also situates the tour within the history of the Psychiatric Hospital in Risskov, offering what the museum calls a moving and thought-provoking insight into life there and into the ideas that shaped the hospital’s establishment in the mid-19th century. The museum says it was the first institution of its kind outside the capital. Each tour lasts approximately one hour, and visitors are advised to allow extra time to explore the exhibition afterwards.
The July programme includes four further Thursday tours listed in the newsletter: 9 July, 16 July, 23 July, and 30 July 2026, all at 1 pm. The two English-language tours are scheduled for 2 July and 30 July, while the other dates are listed as guided tours in Danish. The event pages note that places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Alongside the July tours, the newsletter places current and forthcoming programming in view, including the exhibition 'The Line that Holds the World' by Chilean Art Brut artist Óscar Morales Martínez, which the museum says is on view until 18 October 2026, and a separate evening event, 'Mindfulness & Mandalas at Museum Ovartaci', planned for 10 September 2026. The newsletter also notes that works by Ovartaci are currently on view in the international exhibition 'New Humans: Memories of the Future' at the New Museum in New York, where the show is listed as running until August 2026.
