'Our Collections, Reimagined' is dated 22 September 2026–7 May 2028.
Look closer and connections emerge between works made in different times and places around the world: those connections run through the materials people use, the places they call home, the memories they carry, and the ways artists make sense of everyday life.
The exhibition also considers how objects can carry stories across time and place, how artists reimagine what they see and inherit, and how art can give shape to experiences of identity, memory and belonging.
The accompanying announcement names David Hockney, Lubaina Himid and Pablo Picasso among the familiar artists represented, alongside historic textiles, wallpaper and works by makers visitors might be discovering for the first time. The Whitworth is home to more than 60,000 works of art, textiles and wallpaper from around the world.
