Part 1, ‘Ueno—100 Years of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum,’ looks back at 100 years of Ueno through a range of records and materials.
The materials include paintings, prints, photographs and archival materials from the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum.
The historical survey covers the founding of the Tokyo (Prefectural) Metropolitan Art Museum, its circumstances during and after the war, and its activities after the opening of a new building in 1975.
The museum’s institutional history is presented alongside views of Ueno from the corresponding periods.
