Kirchner Museum Davos will open its ‘Offenes Atelier – Living Museum’ programme to adults and young people aged 16 and over on 3 July, with further sessions set to continue through the month. The hands-on workshop series is framed by the museum as an invitation for participants to follow their inspiration in response to the current exhibition ‘FARBENRAUSCH’. The first session runs from 10:00 to 12:00, with a contribution payable according to each participant’s means and advance registration required by 3 p.m. the day before.

The museum’s July newsletter presents ‘Offenes Atelier’ as one element in a broader summer programme built around the themes and public interpretation of ‘FARBENRAUSCH’. The exhibition also anchors a schedule of related talks, tours and participatory events, including public guided visits to the show on Tuesdays and Sundays, each from 16:00 to 16:45, at an additional fee of CHF 9 on top of admission. Online ticketing is used for some of the museum’s programmes and exhibitions.

According to the museum, the workshop is organised with partners including living museum, the Fachstelle Integration des Kanton GR, Sozialdienst Davos, IG offenes Davos and ARGO Stiftung. The format suggests a collaborative approach to art participation, bringing together museum education and local social and integration networks. The newsletter does not give further details about the workshop content, but it does state that the sessions are inspired by the current exhibition and open to adults and teenagers from 16 years.

The July programme also places color at the centre of several related events. On 11 July, the museum will hold ‘Um Farbtheorien kreisen’, a guided session in which selected color theories are placed in direct dialogue with works by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. The museum notes that Kirchner explored the effect of colour throughout his life, while voices from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to Mary Gartside and Johannes Itten examined how colors relate to one another, sometimes in contradictory ways.

Later in the month, on 19 July, Juraj Lipscher will lead a special tour titled ‘Spezialführung mit Juraj Lipscher’. The museum identifies him as a chemist and co-author of the standard work ‘Das Farbenbuch’. The guided visit asks why the sky is blue, why dawn glows red, and why Kirchner painted mountains violet and snow pink, linking pigment science to the museum’s holdings. Attendance is limited, and the museum recommends booking tickets online.

The summer calendar extends beyond color-focused interpretation to participatory and family-oriented events. ‘Sommerfest im Kirchner Park’ is listed for 5 July from 12:00 to 17:00, with a jazz concert as part of Davos Klosters Sounds Good, activities for children and adults, food stalls and free admission. Other July entries include ‘Yoga im Museum’ on 16 July, ‘Kunst-Hengert’ on 23 July, and ‘FARBENRAUSCH AUF DER STAFELALP’ on 25 July, a creative excursion with illustrator and graphic designer Andrea Birkhofer that includes a visit to ‘Kirchners Hütte’ and has a bad-weather backup date of 8 August.

For the ‘Offenes Atelier – Living Museum’ sessions, the museum lists 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 July 2026, each from 10:00 to 12:00, with registration by 15:00 the previous day.
