Mohamed Lekleti’s exhibition ‘En déséquilibre / في اختلال التوازن’ is on view at Frac Occitanie Montpellier from 25 September to 23 December 2026. The presentation is described as the first French monographic exhibition of this importance for the Moroccan artist living in Montpellier, and was curated by Éric Mangion as part of Saison Méditerranée 2026.
The exhibition brings together a large site-produced mural and drawings on paper in an installation that appears to float in a fragile state of balance. Lekleti uses only the gallery walls as supports, creating the illusion that each image or object is suspended in a fragile and precarious balance or imbalance, with humans, animals and objects appearing not to touch the floor.
Lekleti works mainly in black and white, although some compositions incorporate touches of colour, materials or collage. His techniques include charcoal, graphite, ink, acrylic, pastel, photography, digital printing, sewing and textile elements.
Among the objects used in the installation are resin sculptures, stuffed birds referring to Farîd-ud-Dîn ‘Attâr’s ‘The Conference of the Birds’, ancestral Moroccan property deeds carved in wood, wigs, African masks and prayer rugs. For Mohamed Lekleti, the celestial world joins the terrestrial world, the eternal and the factual touch, and the timeless and the present become one, as do the past and the present.
Saison Méditerranée 2026 takes place throughout France from 15 May to 31 October 2026.
