Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma will present 'Territoris en trànsit / Solo duo: Entre el far i l’abisme', an exhibition with works by Anna Talens and Mar Guerrero, co-produced with the IVAM – Institut Valencià d'Art Modern. The show is scheduled to run from 17 September 2026 to 28 February 2027 in Espai C at the museum in Palma, with an opening on 17 September at 19:00. Alicia Ventura is named as curator.
The museum describes the project as a jointly conceived exhibition for both institutions, bringing together contexts linked to the Mediterranean territory. It is presented as the first duo/solo show pairing of Talens and Guerrero, and it places their practices in dialogue around the sea as a space of transit, memory and transformation. Rather than treating the maritime landscape as a fixed boundary, the exhibition proposes the sea as territory: a living, changing body in which cartography dissolves and borders are shaped by currents, tides and temporalities.
Within that framework, the exhibition shifts attention away from conventional romantic or scenic readings of the sea. The museum text says the blue of the sea becomes structure rather than background, while the terrestrial no longer occupies the centre. In this approach, the sea is framed as a contemporary territory charged with political, historical, aesthetic and affective dimensions. The project also emphasizes the meeting point between material and immaterial, between the earthly and the abyssal.
Mar Guerrero’s work for the exhibition draws on residual materials from the ocean, including eroded plastics and driftwood that she collects and transforms into sculptural pieces. According to the museum, these remains cease to be waste and become witnesses to transit, contamination and resistance. The works preserve the memory of maritime journeys and propose an aesthetic in which beauty emerges from discarded materials, while also prompting reflection on human relations with the environment.
Anna Talens approaches the horizon as a perceptual and spiritual experience. Her work explores the boundary between the visible and the invisible, and between what expands and what fades. In the exhibition’s framing, the horizon is not a vanishing point but a mobile presence that structures vision and embodies the possibility of the unattainable. The museum presents this as part of a wider reconsideration of the sea not merely as nature or metaphor, but as an archive of experiences and resonances.
Talens, born in Carcaixent in 1978, is a doctor of fine arts from the Universitat Politècnica de València and currently lives and works in Berlin. Guerrero, born in Palma in 1991, holds degrees from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha and the Universitat Politècnica de València and is undertaking doctoral studies at the Universitat de les Illes Balears. The museum’s announcement situates both artists within a broader network of exhibitions, residencies and awards, and identifies 'Territoris en trànsit' as a coproduction between Es Baluard and the IVAM.
