The photographer transforms The Curve into a shifting landscape of images reflecting the impact of Indian classical music on her pioneering artistic practice.
At its heart, the exhibition celebrates Dayanita Singh’s relationship with tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, whom she photographed for over four decades.
Her work has been deeply impacted by the period between 1981 and 1986, when, as a student, she accompanied Hussain and a group of fellow musicians on their tour bus travelling across India.
The exhibition features several of Singh’s mobile museums, handmade display structures that house images from her archive.
The arrangement of these images will evolve throughout the exhibition alongside a series of newly commissioned prints.
The intimate connection between music and Singh’s work is brought to life through a newly commissioned soundscape produced by the artist and MT Aditya Srinivasan.
