The exhibition runs from 7 October 2027 to 6 February 2028 in the Art Gallery. It is described as a major retrospective—the artist’s first ever career survey. Guided by unprecedented access to Adams’s personal archive, the retrospective will celebrate the pleasure and challenge of slow, deliberate making in an increasingly automated and frictionless world.
The retrospective traces seven decades of artistic experimentation across tapestries, sculptures, photographs, prints and drawings. Adams was born in 1930 in New York City. The exhibition is tagged ‘Art & design’.
Across these forms, Adams has spent the past 70 years interrogating the underlying structure of things, whether the interlocking weave of a textile or the evolving urban fabric of downtown New York. Despite her openness to change, what persists is her transparency of process.
