A public commission is scheduled for 6 May to 1 August 2027 in the Sculpture Court. The Peruvian artist will transform the court with a large-scale installation exploring the idea of 'the plant'.

Its point of departure is ancient permaculture practices, while its form will respond to the centre’s brutalist architecture.

The site-specific commission will combine plants and industrial machinery, bringing those elements together to reflect on the impact of extracting natural resources.

The artist, Ximena Garrido-Lecca, draws on artisanal craft traditions, ancestral agricultural rituals, industrial technologies and diverse languages. Her work uses these areas of reference to question inherited histories and hierarchies of knowledge.

The commission follows Delcy Morelos’s 'origo', which marked the return of artwork to the Sculpture Court for the first time in 10 years.
