The installation is located in the Sainsbury Centre’s East End Gallery, identifying the gallery as the setting for Adelekun’s ‘Tree of Life’.
The tactile and immersive installation invites visitors to move in and around the tree’s central hollow trunk. Its arrangement therefore includes an interior space within the trunk, as well as the surrounding area through which visitors are invited to move.
Drawing on multiple traditions, the tree emerges as a universal symbol of the interconnectedness of all life, personal growth and the cyclical nature of existence. It also acts as a bridge between physical and spiritual realms, bringing those two realms together within the work’s symbolic framework.
