The MCA will hold a curator tour on Sunday 27 September from 2 to 2.30pm, focusing on the artists, ideas and creative processes behind its commissioned artworks. The tour will discuss commissioned works by Ai Weiwei, John Prince Siddon and Nell.
Ai Weiwei’s ‘Mushrooms’ is the second instalment of the MCA’s Neil Balnaves Tallawoladah Lawn Commission series. The work is a meditation on the fragility of life amid conflict and division.
Forty metres long, the artwork comprises 500 cast-iron sculptures of combat helmets, transforming symbols of war into a declaration for peace.
‘Mushrooms’ is on display until April 2027, with free admission and access for the public at all times. The installation is located on Tallawoladah Lawn, Gadigal Country, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia in The Rocks.
