Janet Echelman and Ann Hamilton will take part in an event on Thursday, October 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
The conversation is part of ‘Confluence: Public Art, Experimentation, and Engaged Communities’, taking place October 8–9, 2026.
The artists will address site specificity, immersive public art, and the role of landscape, infrastructure, and community in their practices.
The conversation will include Echelman’s large-scale environmental installations, including ‘Current’ (2023), and will consider how artists engage with the places and communities in which their work is situated.
Informed by the geography of Columbus’s waterfront and city grid, ‘Current’ cascades more than 220 feet along Gay Street.
Earthquakes, tsunamis, subways, and city infrastructure are central to Echelman’s practice; drawing on landscapes, geographies, climate impacts, and communities, she creates sculptural installations that transform public spaces.
Echelman will be in dialogue with Hamilton, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University and a Distinguished Professor in the department for a decade.
