'After Heaven' is a solo exhibition by artist Clifford Prince King that brings together a new series of photographs, a photo-installation, and a video work.
For the exhibition, King directs his focus toward family, place, and landscape in Tucson, Arizona, where he grew up, as well as nearby Sahuarita, where his family has a ranch. The photographs include family members and self-portraits made around the ranch and in the surrounding desert landscape.
King describes his approach to photography as intuitive and diaristic, using the act of making a photograph as a way to understand himself, his subjects, and the world around him. In 'After Heaven', he attends to the connections people hold and the things they must keep at distance, while observing the cycles of family life and reflecting on his own transformations through the lens of the camera. The exhibition considers what remains after heaven through the themes of legacy, memory, and change.
Clifford Prince King is a photographer and filmmaker based in New York. In 2023, he presented his first solo institutional exhibition at the Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum in Long Beach. The exhibition is organized by Alexis Wilkinson, Curator.
