Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt will launch the return of its 'Summer Hangouts' series on July 30 with a free evening of live music, drinks and public exhibition access. The opening event features Reverse Avalanche, a live-electronics project by Jan Ove Hennig, and runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the institution’s Frankfurt am Main venue.
According to Schirn’s programme information, the series brings together outdoor live music in the courtyard, drinks and snacks from Café B, and optional public tours of the current exhibition 'The World Through AI' at 7 p.m. On these evenings, the exhibition remains open until 10 p.m., extending visiting hours beyond the usual schedule.
The July 30 edition is presented in cooperation with the jazz series of 2og:dondorf. Schirn describes Reverse Avalanche as Hennig’s new live-electronic experiment, with the project pairing his modular synthesizer setup with drummer Leon Raum for this performance. The institution frames the collaboration as part of a series built around improvised and open-ended musical encounters.
'The World Through AI' is Schirn’s large summer exhibition and continues through September 20. The exhibition brings together around 40 works by approximately 30 international artists and includes video installations, graphics, sculptures and photographs. Schirn says the show focuses on the cognitive, political and ecological dimensions of artificial intelligence and occupies both of the institution’s exhibition spaces.
The exhibition’s checklist on Schirn’s website includes works by artists and collaborators such as Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst, Julian Charrière, Joan Fontcuberta, Hito Steyerl, Trevor Paglen, Kate Crawford & Vladan Joler, Grégory Chatonsky and Érik Bullot. The institution also notes that the exhibition uses a series of 'time capsules' or small cabinet-like displays to connect the present with the past.
The 'Summer Hangouts' series continues on August 6 with Rænah and on August 13 with Estellina, both also listed as free entry evenings beginning at 7 p.m. and paired with public tours of 'The World Through AI'. Schirn’s programme pages list the July 30 event as 'SUMMER HANGOUT mit Reverse Avalanche' and state that attendance is free, with reservation available through the institution’s event page.
