An opening event is scheduled for Thursday 24 September from 6–8pm, featuring Randals Dad on decks and an outdoor projection of ‘Living Well’ by Jarra Karalinar Steel.
Curated by Jarra Karaliner Steel, the exhibition features Blaktasia, ENOKi, Molly Hunt, Jay Kulbardi, April Phillips and DESIRAI Saunders.
‘Blak Pixels’ brings together artists working across game development, animation, illustration and screen-based media, presenting contemporary First Peoples digital art through storytelling, experimentation and shared cultural expression, while foregrounding how Indigenous artists are shaping digital spaces.
Blaktasia is a First Nations fantasy video game in which players restore the bush, encounter animals, unlock minigames and take on the corrupting force of the Murk within a world informed by Country; the game and its universe are created and led by a team of First Nations artists, musicians, designers and creative technologists working at GUCK.
Jarra Karaliner Steel, who is Boonwurrung, Wemba Wemba and Trawlwoolway, is a Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist whose work explores Blak Futurism, identity and future folklore through bold visual storytelling across public and digital spaces.
