The fifth edition of 'In Visita' is dedicated to Carol Rama, the Turin-born artist who lived from 1918 to 2015. The exhibition presents seven works by Rama from the Gallerie d’Italia–Intesa Sanpaolo collections and a private collection. The project is curated by Monica Preti, director general of Fondazione Pistoia Musei, and Annamaria Iacuzzi, curator of the 20th-century collections, in collaboration with the Archivio Carol Rama.
The works are paintings made between the early 1950s and the first half of the 1970s, offering an examination of less familiar phases of Rama’s artistic development. The selection addresses the artist’s 1950s engagement with abstraction through the Movimento Arte Concreta, or MAC. It also includes the 1960s Bricolages, in which Rama combined stains with discarded objects carrying personal histories.
Another group comes from the 'Luogo e segni' series, in which Rama experimented with bicycle inner tubes in the works known as 'Gomme'. The exhibition further includes early-1970s 'diagrams' made with thread sewn onto fabric.
'In Visita' is a project of Fondazione Pistoia Musei. An accompanying volume will be published by Gli Ori-Pistoia, with contributions by Monica Preti, Annamaria Iacuzzi and Maria Grazia Messina.
