For FOMU, Pongo is developing a spatial installation combining photography, video and textiles. The Belgian-Congolese artist, born in 1988, has spent nearly 10 years travelling through the Democratic Republic of Congo while asking what can be heard by listening to the earth.
Pongo’s work is rooted in Congolese traditions, symbolism and philosophy, and seeks to make the experience of the country tangible rather than map it.
Using adapted full-spectrum cameras, he records light that remains invisible to the human eye. The resulting images show the richness of Congolese nature while making clear that every act of looking is limited and personal.
